Bur Oak Trail

Trail access is at the Observatory Avenue entrance on the left as you enter the park at the point where the lawn begins along Observatory. There is a sign noting the trailhead which is seen not far from where the sidewalk ends along Observatory. This trail merges with the Ridge Trail.
Ridge Trail
Distance: 0.65 miles

Grade: gradual, flat
Access is found on the hill just to the left of the bend on Observatory Avenue and on the left as you enter the park. You'll walk up hill through the old weeping cheery trees and will find the trailhead where the woodbine on the left meets the tall meadow on the right at the top of the lawn. The trail enters the woods and continues on the ridge above the Valley Trail to the south (right) and the Bur Oak Trail to the north (left). Hikers coming from Redbank Road will pass under the railroad trestle and will find the Ridge Trail on the right.
Valley Trail
Distance: 0.65 miles

Grade: gradual, flat
Trail access is at the bottom of the hill on Observatory Avenue, east side (or left side) of the street as you're entering the park. There is a cutout in the road for a car or two and a picnic table by the trailhead.
Tree Trail
Distance: 0.7 miles
Vertical: 130 feet
Grade: gradual, flat
The Tree Trail access is found on the service road off Observatory Circle to the north side of Ault Pavilion. Look for the trail entry on the left side of the road as you start down the service road. The trail can also be accessed between the parking area near the picnic tables and the parking lot for the shelter on the north side of Observatory Circle. Signs mark both trailheads.
Forest Loop Trail

Grade: some steep sections
Forest Loop Trail is not accessible from a park road or lawn area. Access can be from the Valley Trail at either the east end (before the railroad trestle, crossing through the creek) or the west end (cross over the first bridge). Another entry point is from the Tree Trail. Use the service road to access the Tree Trail and after a short while the path levels out and meets up with the Forest Loop Trail.
Kids Tree Trail
Distance: 0.12 miles
Vertical: 25 feet
Grade: mostly gradual
Find the Kids Tree Trail to the west of the playground and bathrooms. The playground is located at the Principio Avenue entrance to the park. There is a lawn path into the woods that leads to the trailhead. The trail then intersects with the Brook Trail before exiting into the lawn and under weeping cheery trees along Observatory Circle, which is not far from the intersection with Observatory Avenue.
Brook Trail
Distance: 0.3 miles
Vertical: 75 feet
Grade: gradual, one moderate grade
Trail access is at the bottom of Observatory Avenue just across the street from the Valley Trail. There is a small sign noting the trailhead. The trail drops from the sidewalk through the trees and to the brook, which runs under the street and along the Valley Trail. Following the Brook Trail along the creek takes you over a couple of bridges and then up a steep hill to the Kids Tree Trail.
Cliff Trail

Entry to the Cliff Trail is only from other trails not from a park road or lawn area. Access this trail from Shattuc Trail near its intersection with the service road. Another option is to start from the Forest Loop Trail, just up from the Valley Trail. The railroad tracks are parallel and visible off to the east where the Cliff Trail parts ways with the Forest Loop Trail.
Shattuc Trail

Trailhead is at the southern entrance on Heekin Avenue. near the Heekin Overlook. The Heekin Overlook is located off Observatory Circle to the south of Ault Pavilion. There are several picnic tables and a bathroom located in the area and plenty of parking along Observatory Circle. Look for the large wood arbor overlooking Lunken Airport, Armleder Park and the valley below. Access Shattuc trail to the west of the terrace below the large arbor and overlook.
